Durham Garden: Growing Learning Through Community

The Fought Giving Committee partnered with Durham Garden, an elementary school garden located just down the street from the Fought office, to help restore and sustain a meaningful outdoor learning space for students. Through hands-on volunteer work and financial support, our team is proud to contribute to a garden that encourages curiosity, teamwork, and connection to the natural world.

The Mission

Durham Garden supports hands-on, outdoor learning providing students with a space to explore gardening, environment stewardship, and healthy food systems. School gardens play an important role in enriching education, fostering responsibility, and building stronger school communities.

Our Partnership

Our partnership with Durham Garden grew out of a simple realization: Durham was the only elementary school in the area without an adopted garden or garden committee. Seeing an opportunity to help, our team stepped in to officially adopt the garden and commit to its long-term care and improvement. Our team completed an initial summer clean-up and recently returned for our first official garden workday of the school year, working together to clear, refresh, and begin restoring the space. While there’s still work ahead, we’re committed to continued volunteer days to help bring the garden back to a place where it can be actively used by students and teachers during the school day.

In addition to our on-the-ground involvement, we made a financial gift to the Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools to support broader educational initiatives that benefit students across the district.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue growing this partnership—strengthening the garden over time and helping ensure it becomes a valuable, well-used resource for students, staff, and the surrounding community.

Our partnership with Durham Garden reflects our belief that building strong communities includes investing in the places where children learn, grow, and explore together.
