Lions Camp
Lions Camp Stateside Project: Building Joy, Accessibility, and Community
This year, Andersen volunteers gathered at Lions Camp to renovate, repair, and refresh facilities — creating welcoming, inclusive, and adventure filled spaces for campers of all abilities to enjoy.
Location: Blaine, Washington
The Mission
Lions Camp provides a classic summer camp experience for children and adults with visual impairments and other disabilities. The camp’s mission is to offer a safe and supportive environment where everyone can explore nature, build friendships, and gain confidence through outdoor recreation.
The Team
70 Andersen Construction employees, volunteers, and partners
The Project
Our partnership with Lions Camp reflects Andersen’s commitment to building spaces that bring people together and remove barriers. Each year, a dedicated team of Andersen volunteers, family members, and partners spend a week at camp transforming facilities through repairs, construction, and upgrades that directly enhance the campers’ experience.
During this year’s project, volunteers contributed their time and skills to make lasting improvements, including:
• Installing an ADA-compliant door and sidewalk for the dining hall
• Renovating four dorm lounges and hallways
• Upgrading the bowling alley, stage, and game room
• Installing nine new water heaters, seventy curtains, and twenty shower curtains
• Building four new entertainment centers
• Painting with 150 gallons of paint and securing 8,672 screws (plus 14 bottles of Goof Off!)
Beyond the work itself, the spirit of teamwork and positivity was felt throughout the week. As Lions Camp’s board president shared, “Even though many team members hadn’t met before, it felt like everyone worked well together and enjoyed one another. This really is an Andersen family.”
We’re deeply grateful to our volunteers, SDS for supplying materials and support, and the many families who joined the effort. Together, we’ve given the campers a refreshed and welcoming space to make memories for years to come.

“What impressed me the most was how well the Andersen team worked together. No matter what challenge camp up, the response was always, ‘Yeah, we can do that!’ That kind of attitude and teamwork made a huge impact on our camp community.”
